Bedding plant workshop at Olds

Olds College will be the site of a workshop on bedding plant production.

The Jan. 28 and 29 event will kick off at the Alberta Agriculture and Rural Development field office in Airdrie on day 1, with instruction shifting to the Land Sciences Building at Olds College on the second day.

The workshop is designed for new and intermediate growers interested in learning about the bedding plant industry, including financing, economics, production and growing.

The Olds College segment of the workshop will consist of a day in a greenhouse environment, with discussions focusing on issues like growing materials, greenhouse structures, the growing cycle, insect pests and diseases.

Advance registration is required, and costs $70 for Alberta Greenhouse Growers Association members and $100 for non-members. Online registration is available at

Additional information can be obtained by calling Rob Spencer, commercial horticulture specialist with Alberta Agriculture and Rural Development, at 310-3276.
