Cal Dallas to attend World Heavy Oil Congress

Red Deer South MLA Cal Dallas will escape Central Alberta’s frigid temperatures next week when he travels to New Orleans, La.

Dallas, who is Alberta’s minister of international and intergovernmental relations, is slated to attend the World Heavy Oil Congress in the southern state.

Industry officials from 25 countries are expected to be at the March 5 to 7 show, where Dallas is scheduled to participate in a panel discussion entitled, Heavy oil transportation: overcoming the infrastructure challenge.”

“Energy infrastructure constraints must be overcome if Albertans are to get higher prices for our resources,” said Dallas in a news release.

“We need to be at the table at these types of events to firmly position Alberta as a safe, secure and responsible global energy supplier.”

Meanwhile, Alberta Energy Minister Diana McQueen will be in Houston, Texas, during the same period for CERA (Cambridge Energy Research Associates) Week. That event brings industry leaders and government officials together to discuss energy and technology.

Dallas will leave for New Orleans on March 4 and return five days later. The cost of his trip is estimated at $5,555.
