Mucho Burrito coming to city

A Mexican fast-food restaurant that’s spreading rapidly across Canada is poised to open in Red Deer.

Mucho Burrito is expected to be serving burritos, quesadillas, tacos and other Mexican fare in the city by mid-July, said Steve Travers, area developer with Extreme Brandz, Mucho Burrito’s franchisor.

The restaurant will occupy a portion of the former Blockbuster building in Taylor Plaza, at 6730 Taylor Dr.

Founded in Mississauga, Ont. in 2006 by brothers Mark and Alex Rechichi, and Sean Black, Mucho Burrito outlets can now be found at dozens of locations in Ontario, British Columbia, Saskatchewan and even the United States. The brand has also proven popular in Alberta.

“This will be number 19, and I have five others under construction,” said Travers of the restaurants in this province.

The franchisees for Red Deer’s Mucho Burrito are Karan Seth and Aman Buttar.

Travers attributed the chain’s popularity to the upscale look and inviting decor of its stores, as well as the fact that it uses natural ingredients like real cheese and sour cream, and its products are hand-rolled to order.

“It’s customized — whatever the guests want to put in their burrito.”

The Mucho Burrito in Red Deer will be open from 10:30 a.m. to 10 p.m., seven days a week.
