Red Deer permits off to quick start

The City of Red Deer’s Inspections and Licensing Department is off to a running start in 2014, with $15.6 million worth of construction projects approved in January.

This total, which was up from $8.5 million for the same month in 2013, included $11.9 million in building permits issued for residential work.

The biggest of these was a $6.8-million permit for a 79-unit apartment building being built by Seymour Pacific Developments at 2450 22nd St.

Seymour Pacific is also developing a 78-unit apartment building on the same site, the permit for which was obtained in December 2013.

Building permits for industrial work last month added another $3.6 million.

The biggest approvals in this category included one valued at $1.9 million and issued to Camdon Construction Ltd. for renovations to a building at 7883 Edgar Industrial Way, and another worth $1.1 million and issued to Timcon Construction Ltd. for tenant improvements at 7465 45th Ave. Cl.

Commercial and public permits issued by the city last month added $150,000 and $22,000 respectively.

For the same month in 2013, residential building permit values reached $6 million, industrial projects accounted for $620,000, commercial work added $920,000 and public construction contributed $1 million.
