Wendy’s at 6781 Gaetz Ave. demolished

Anyone craving a Baconator and Frosty will be disappointed if they stop at the 6781 Gaetz Ave. Wendy’s in Red Deer.

The fast-food restaurant is gone — demolished this week after serving customers for nearly 25 years.

Michele Liang, marketing manager with Wendy’s Canada, said a new restaurant is planned for the site, with construction expected to be underway by fall.

The replacement will be developed with Wendy’s new design features, she added.

“We’re reinvigorating the brand,” said Liang, who listed the building design, logo and uniforms as among the elements being changed.

Wendy’s new look has already been tested in North America, with Red Deer the third location in Alberta to adopt it, following Leduc and Edmonton.

The old restaurant, which opened in January 1980, was a corporate-owned outlet.

It ceased operations the week of July 7.

Wendy’s continues to operate at two local locations: 2410 Gaetz Ave. and on the west side of Gasoline Alley, south of Red Deer.
