Kick it to the Curb participation increasing
More people are using the city’s Kick it to the Curb events.
“Every year, we see more people with a wider variety of items people are putting out,” said Lauren Maris, a city environmental programs specialist, of the event on Saturday and Sunday.
“I’m pleased with the results I’ve heard.”
She said Red Deerians are also using the website www.yardsaletreasuremap.com.
“I also saw there was a good response to the treasure map. People are using it to get the word out.”
Todd Nivens of the Kerry Wood Nature Centre said the Trash to Treasure Swap Meet was also successful.
“We had stuff coming in and stuff going out. This is the second time we’ve done it,” to coincide with Kick it to the Curb events, he said.
Maris said the city sponsors two annual Kick it to the Curb events: in October during Waste Reduction Week and in June during Environment Week.
Residents can put usable, unwanted items with free signs outside their homes any time.
“We don’t want stuff out there for long periods of time,” said Maris, adding Freecycle is “a fabulous resource to get rid of items all year long.”
