Nominations extended for Red Deer Community Sports Banquet

If you have anyone you believe deserves recognition at the Red Deer Community Sports Banquet the deadline for nominations has been extended to Monday.

The deadline was originally slated for today, but was extended because of a slow response.

Nominations can be done through the Sports Council of Red Deer’s website — www.scord.ca.

Categories for nominations are senior men and women (55 plus), open men and women (19-54), and junior boys and girls (15-18) in the athlete divisions.

There is also team and coach of the year, official and junior official of the year, minor coach (the Kendall Dunkle Award), business contributor of the year, volunteer of the year, spirit of sport award and the Lifetime Achievement Award.

Local sport associations are encouraged to choose their own athletes for the U12 and U15 and volunteer recognition categories.

The banquet is set for March 9 at the Sheraton Hotel with Olympian Carol Huynh as the guest speaker.

Huynh won gold in the 2008 Beijing Olympics followed by gold medal performances at the Commonwealth and Pan-Am Games. She has secured a spot on the Olympic team in this summer’s Olympics in London, England.
