In March of 2010, I decided to take control of my life again, and I joined a gym for about the 5th time in my life. However, I vowed that this time would be different. I joined a trainer exclusive gym, 360 Fitness in Red Deer.
The day I met, my trainer, Katy was exciting and terrifying all at the same time. She did an initial assessment on me and made me step on a scale, something I hadn't done in years. To my shock and horror, I weighed 244lbs.
Katy asked me what my goals were and I told her I wanted to lose 100lbs in one year. I was pretty sure she thought I was crazy, and she actually later confirmed that to me! I committed to healthy eating, and kept a food diary of everything I ate.
I was working out 6 days a week, sometimes twice a day. This was my new lifestyle, and I was loving every minute of it. One year later, it was time to prove to everyone that I did it! Katy watched as I stepped on the scale. 142lbs I lost 102lbs in one year.
Yes it is possible! Hard work and dedication is key! Since then I have continued to set goals for myself.
In 2011, I ran a road/trail race every month through the whole summer, distances from 5km to 15km. In October 2011, I attended a Figure competition in Calgary, to support a friend as she walked the stage, it was then I decided that would be my next goal.
Then in May 2012, I ran my first half marathon, and in June 2012 I completed Tough Mudder, a 13 mile obstacle course designed by British Special Forces. I am now proud to say that I have experienced the determination and dedication that it takes to lose weight and keep it off for good.
Whether it is 5lbs, 20lbs or 100lbs, yes, it can be done. It's about goals, and making yourself a priority. As of August 21, 2012, I am elated to say that I have lost 127lbs to date.
On Oct 6th I walked the stage and competed in my very first Figure Competition, I then did another on Oct 20th, and my final competition of this year was on November 3rd. I plan to compete again in May 2013, but for now I am enjoying improving myself every day.
