Artwalk leadup to festival Saturday

It’s spot-the-artist time again in Red Deer as a prelude to Artwalk Festival Day on Saturday.

The Artwalk Festival will culminate with art markets and music on Saturday at the park behind the Recreation Centre.

In the meantime, artists will be demonstrating their talents all around Red Deer this week.

Look for these creative people in City Hall Park, the Ross Street Patio, and the Kerry Wood Nature Centre from now until Friday.

On Thursday, an Artwalk Amble Gallery Tour will be held at galleries around the city.

The guided tour, via chartered bus, begins and ends at the Red Deer Museum and Art Gallery.

It will also wind through the Kiwanis Gallery at the Red Deer Public Library, Gallery IS and Gilmore Guitars. A wine and cheese reception will complete the evening. Tickets for the tour are $20 ($15 for youths under age 13) from the museum or Sunworks.

Saturday’s free Artwalk Festival will be held from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., in the park just north of the Red Deer public market.

Besides an extensive art market, various art demos will be happening, as well as interactive arts and crafts tables and live music at the all-ages event.

Jeremy Mayne is the featured artist and Shannon Woolgar will lead children’s art in the activities tent.

Everyone is invited to “put yourself in the picture” by attending the annual festival, soaking up some music and buying some original art.
