Performance artist Rita McKeough to talk about works at ART101

Calgary-based installation and performance artist Rita McKeough will talk about her sound-based works on Monday at Red Deer College.

McKeough has exhibited throughout Canada since the late 1970s.

Her work has been featured in the books Radio Rethink: Essays on Art, Sound and Transmission and Caught in the Act: Canadian Women in Performance. The native of Antigonish, N.S., studied printmaking and sculpture at the University of Calgary. She later went on to study at the Nova Scotia College of Art and Design University, where she was awarded her master’s in fine arts degree.

Her experience as a radio station disc jockey and drummer for bands led to her introduction of sound elements in her elaborate installations, and to the development of electronic and mechanical objects in interactive environments.

She’s currently in the band Sleepy Panther with her friend Richard Brown and teaching at The Alberta College of Art and Design.

Everyone is welcome at the 7 p.m. lecture in the Learning Common (Room 2909, outside the painting studio).

This is the third ART101 Visiting Artist Lecture of the term.
