Red Deer artist Paul Boultbee is opening his first exhibit at Edmonton’s Harcourt House.

Shadow Man is showing at The Art Incubator Gallery in the artist-run centre at 10215-112 St. NW.

Boultbee’s mixed-media works explore relationships between abstract imagery and the human form.

The show’s title is based on Boultbee’s habit of photographing his own shadow whenever he travels to a place he’s never been before.

“It makes a statement: ‘I am here,’” said the artist, who once got into trouble with his mother for touring Europe and returning without a single picture of himself while there.

Boultbee has previously shown his artworks in Red Deer, at Edmonton’s public library, and in a group show at the Alberta Craft Council Gallery.

“I’m very excited,” he said, about having a solo show in Alberta’s capital.

Shadow Man runs to May 20. There’s no admission charge.
