Slam poet C.R. Avery will perform his beatboxing verses while simultaneously accompanying himself on the keyboards and harmonica in Red Deer on Saturday.

The “talk rock” artist is part of the Vancouver-based trio Tons of Fun University, which has a growing following. Avery’s art has been described as if Neil Young had been inspired by hip-hop, or a cross between Sylvia Plath and LL Cool J.

He will perform to promote his latest album All the angels didn’t scare me at 7 p.m. at The Hub on Ross. Special guest is Red Deer’s Boots Graham.

Tickets are $15 per person or $30 per group, cash only at the door
