A man accused of first-degree murder and kidnapping will have a trial in 2018.
Shayne Earl Gulka, 45, made a brief appearance along with his lawyer Michael Scrase in Red Deer Court of Queen’s Bench on Monday.
Gulka has pleaded not guilty and is scheduled to stand trial May 7 to 25 before a judge and jury. The accused is not in custody.
Gulka, 45, was charged in March in connection with the death of Bradley William Webber, 46, in a rural area northwest of Eckville.
RCMP allege that on Oct. 24, 2006 an unnamed man was kidnapped and forced to give up the whereabouts of an associate, who was living in a fifth wheel on a rural property.
Police say Webber was shot several times.
A Canada-wide warrant has been issued for a second man, Kevin Edward Brown, of Calgary, who is facing the same charges.
