Failing grade on snow removal

I am a visitor from out-of-town. On Friday, Jan. 3, I came to Red Deer for a medical appointment. I was shocked and appalled at the state of your road conditions within the city.

I had to do an errand downtown on Ross Street. When I got out of my car, I fell onto the street. People were getting stuck everywhere.

I was also appalled that the sidewalks were not cleared for pedestrians. The small town where I live keeps its streets well maintained.

All of my friends in Red Deer were disgusted with the road conditions within the city. One of them said: “The mayor and city council should be ashamed and embarrassed that they have failed the community” in keeping the roads safe and maintained. The excuse that they’re ‘trying’ to keep things up is old and lame. ‘Trying’ and ‘doing’ are not the same things.

I am in wholehearted agreement that Mayor Tara Veer and city council should be ashamed and embarrassed. They’ve been caught with their pants down.

I give an F grade to Veer and city councillors for failing visitors and the community for not being prepared. Do you think you live in Florida perhaps? Or is it Mexico?

Scientific climatic studies clearly predicted before winter even hit Alberta this year that this was going to be a whopper of a winter. Perhaps the mayor and city council were on vacation (in their minds), or asleep at the wheel? The scientific data was available.

F grade nonetheless — people are tired of your excuses for the mess that Red Deer has been in.
