Federal retirees treated poorly
I’m not very happy with the 100 per cent increase in health-care premiums announced in the budget on federal retirees.
I retired from the RCAF after serving 24 years, through the 1950s, ’60s and ’70s. We got paid very little and now receive very little pension. We didn’t get a lot and didn’t expect a lot but we always expected to be treated fairly.
I’ve always believed that we have to pay our fair share but a 100 per cent increase in health premiums is not fair.
Joe Clark lost a federal election because he planned to increase the price of gasoline by three cents a gallon. At that time, a three-cent increase was outrageous, so how do you think we feel about a 100 per cent increase in anything today?
Current federal employees are better paid today and may have an easier time handling this increase.
Some of us won’t be around for too many more years so give us a break; soon we won’t need anything at all.
