Icy, snowy conditions causing problems on Central Alberta highways Thursday

Highway 590 near Innisfail is closed due to a serious collision.

RCMP say that traffic is being redirected while emergency workers respond and police investigate.

“As the snow continues to cause deteriorating road conditions, please drive with caution,” said Red Deer County in a post on X Thursday morning.

“A motor vehicle collision on Hwy 590 at Hwy 805 has resulted in the highway being shut down while the RCMP investigate. It is recommend to avoid the area, but detours are in place.”

At about 8 a.m., Thursday, RCMP advised of multiple collisions between Blackfalds and Ponoka due to icy road conditions.
