A stun gun was used on a Red Deer man after he allegedly became combative with police at Bower Place on April 27.

Red Deer RCMP said at about 11 a.m. they responded to a call from the public about a man acting erratically and spraying himself in the eye with perfume.

When officers asked the suspect to leave the shopping centre, he refused, and the suspect was placed under arrest. He then became agitated and approached the officer who attempted to gain control of the suspect.

Police said the suspect became increasingly combative towards the officer. After multiple demands to stop, the suspect refused, and the member discharged a stun gun.

A 38-year-old was charged with assault on a police officer, resisting a peace officer, and mischief (obstructing enjoyment of property.)
