Red Deerians celebrate 420

About 150 take part in annual smoke-in at City Hall

Music and coughs rang in 4:20 p.m. down at city hall Thursday afternoon.

Under the watchful eye of Red Deer City RCMP a crowd of about 150 showed up to socialize, sing and smoke the devil’s lettuce in celebration of 420.

Using the opportunity to get out into the nice weather, Andrew Lee-Brown joined his friends at city hall park right before everyone sparked up.

“I’ve been here about two minutes but the vibes are good,” said Andrew Lee-Brown. “April has such nice weather, everyone just wants to sit on the grass and hang out.”

Last year, groups supporting the legalization of marijuana were in attendance but this year the crowd was able to just sit and chill out. The federal government plans to have an established regime for legalized marijuana by July 2018, but until the new laws are in place, Lee-Brown is going to continue celebrating Spring in city hall park.

“People keep telling me to get my medical card but I think I’ll just keep doing what I’m doing and wait a year.” says Lee-Brown.
