The grand prize for this year’s Red Deer Hospital Dream Home Lottery is valued at more than $1 million.

The Red Deer Regional Health Foundation launched the 26th year of the lottery at the dream home, located at 16 Emmett Cres., on Friday.

Proceeds from the lottery and Mega Bucks 50 will contribute to acquiring critically needed, state-of-the-art equipment in several units at the Red Deer Regional Hospital Centre.

“Over the years, this event has funnelled more than $12 million into our hospital,” said Manon Therriault, the foundation’s CEO.

“Funds raised through the lottery enhance the quality of care that skilled nurses and physicians can give to the 500,000 individuals served by our hospital. The lottery makes a real difference for dedicated medical professionals and their patients.”

This year’s lottery will fund equipment like a phototherapy system to allow parents to hold and soothe their infant while undergoing phototherapy, a cardiology case cart to monitor cardiac rhythms during stress testing, and other equipment to provide care for patients in the emergency and operating rooms.

The dream home is a bungalow built by Sorento Custom Homes, and features nearly 2,800 square-feet of furnished living space, four bedrooms and two-and-a-half bathrooms. The home is open for viewing on Saturdays and Sundays from April 13 to June 16.

“We’ve been building with Sorento for the last 10 years, and yet again, they’ve delivered another amazing product,” said Therriault.

“Year after year our ticket buyers let us know what they want. They want something liveable and amazing – Sorento always does that.”

There is also an early bird cash prize of $20,000 available for people who purchase tickets by the end of May 6. A second chance early bird cash draw can win $10,000 for people who buy their tickets before the end of May 27.

A total of $1.29 million is prizes will be up for grabs through the 2024 Red Deer Hospital Dream Home Lottery, including the $1.072-million grand prize. Additional prizes include a Tree Hugger Tiny Home worth more than $160,000, kitchen appliances, laptops, GoPro cameras and more.

The Mega Bucks 50 jackpot could be as high as $1 million, meaning the winner could potentially win as much as $500,000.
