Advocate outdoors columnist Bob Scammell wins National Recreation and Fisheries Award
Advocate outdoors columnist Bob Scammell has earned another award.
Gail Shea, minister of Fisheries and Oceans, awarded Scammell with the National Recreation and Fisheries Award for his outstanding contribution to promoting the interests of recreational fishing in Alberta.
For nearly 50 years, Scammell has written and spoken in support of conservation of Alberta fisheries and recreational angling. His weekly outdoors column has been carried in the Red Deer Advocate continuously since 1966.
Scammell has served two terms as president of the Alberta Fish and Game Association, where he did much of his recreational fisheries work. He has also served on the Red Deer Public Library Board, the Canadian Wildlife Federation and the Alberta Conservation Association.
In May 2013, Scammell was inducted into the Alberta Sports Hall of Fame for promoting recreational fishing.
