Alberta couple accused of bouncing dozens of cheques bounced behind bars

LEDUC — Two people from the Edmonton region are facing charges for allegedly passing more than 40 bad cheques throughout central Alberta worth in excess of $33,000.

RCMP say they started investigating last December when three cheques for merchandise worth hundreds of dollars bounced at businesses in Vegreville.

Police later learned of 23 other cases of the alleged fraud dating back to last October in communities that include Olds and St. Paul.

In the most recent case in Two Hills, two suspects were seen leaving in a white 2002 Dodge Ram truck with an Alberta licence plate.

Mounties say reports of bad cheques are still coming in.

Virginia Josephine Wallis and Daryl George Wallis, a couple from the Calmar area, have been arrested and were expected to appear in a Leduc courtroom Thursday.
