Alberta legislature speaker apologizes to Innisfail class for MLAs boorish behaviour

Taking the advice of Grade 6 students, Alberta legislature Speaker Gene Zwozdesky has apologized for the boorish behaviour of MLAs.

Teachers from Innisfail Middle School sent Zwozdesky a letter following their November 2013 trip to the legislature expressing their disgust with the behaviour of elected officials during question period.

To follow up, Zwozdesky called the school’s president Jay Steeves to apologize and sent a letter to the school with the same sentiments.

The rowdy session that offended the group of about 90 Grade 6 students and a handful of teachers and parents included Doug Griffiths, a cabinet minister, saying “It’s amazing how the Opposition find the ability to suck and blow every single day.”

The school’s letter sent to the Speaker after the November incident was read by Zwozdesky on March 10.
