Campground armed robbery suspect apphreneded

A fugitive wanted in connection with the attempted armed robbery of a Central Alberta campground was caught early Friday after a massive RCMP search effort.

Dillon Bristow, who police had considered armed and dangerous, was apprehended and taken into custody at about 12:30 a.m. after an RCMP search of a Bowden-area property. No one was injured in the arrest.

Numerous units were involved in the search, including the Calgary Emergency Response Team, Police Dog Services, an RCMP helicopter, Red Deer RCMP. Red Deer GIS, ALERT, Olds RCMP, Innisfail RCMP, Blackfalds RCMP, Didsbury RCMP, and Red Deer Traffic Services.

RCMP are thanking the residents of Bowden for their co-operation.

Arrest warrants had been issued for Bristow, 20, of Innisfail. He was previously charged with robbery with a firearm, possession of property obtained by crime, possession of a firearm, trafficking cocaine, wearing a disguise with intent to commit an offence, using a firearm for an offence, and failing to comply with a probation order.

The charges stem from a June 5 incident in which two suspects attempted to steal a vehicle from a camper at Kelly’s Campground, west of Innisfail.

After a truck stolen from Pine Lake was found in Bowden, one of the suspects in the attempted armed robbery was arrested and taken into custody.

Michael Holt, 33, was charged on June 7 with multiple offences. He is expected to appear in Red Deer provincial court on June 17.
