Farmhouse burns near Rimbey

An abandoned farmhouse burned to the ground near Rimbey early Monday morning.

Rimbey fire chief John Weisgerber said the fire was noticed in the morning by the owners, who lived in another home on the farm about 10 km southwest of Rimbey.

The fire is believed to have started some time between midnight and 5 a.m.

No one was injured in the fire that completely destroyed the home that dated back to around the 1950s.

There was not much left of the home by the time the owners spotted the blaze and Rimbey volunteer firefighters were alerted.

Five firefighters spent about two hours at the scene putting out hot spots.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation. A damage estimate was not yet available on Monday.
