Red Deer's first homicide of year probed

Police are investigating Red Deer’s first homicide of 2013.

At about 5:35 a.m. on Tuesday, Red Deer City RCMP found the body of a male in his late teens or early 20s while responding to a disturbance complaint on the 3700 block of 50th Street.

Police allege he was shot and died of his injuries.

“It’s unfortunate the first day of the year we do have a homicide,” said Red Deer City RCMP Cpl. Sarah Knelsen Tuesday afternoon.

“The investigation is just in it’s early stages at this point so we’re not releasing too many details.”

Red Deer City RCMP General Investigation and the RCMP’s K Division Major Crimes Unit are investigating.

Anyone with information that may assist police are asked to call Red Deer City RCMP at 403-343-5575.

To submit an anonymous tip call Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477, or report it online at www.tipsubmit.com.
