Former Red Deer councillor Tim Guilbault found dead

A former colleague is honouring a three term Red Deer City Councillor who was found dead in what police are calling a suspicious death.

Tim Guilbault was found dead in an Innisfail-area residence Monday. Guilbault served on Red Deer City Council from 1986 to 1995.

Larry Pimm served on city council from 1980 to 1995, working with Guilbault for nine years.

“I was just shocked,” said Pimm. “He was well respected in the community.”

Pimm said Guilbault beat him by seven votes in unofficial polls one election cycle.

“He was a tremendous councilor and a really good guy,” said Pimm.

“He was a very positive individual who always did his homework and made really positive contributions.”

Police believe the death is not believed to be a random incident and have called the death suspicious.

On Monday, shortly after noon, Innisfail RCMP were called to investigate the incident at a rural residence within their detachment area.

The Red Deer RCMP major crime unit has taken the lead in the investigation, with the assistance of Innisfail RCMP officers.

An autopsy on the body of Guilbault took place on Tuesday and the police said more information would be released pending their results.

A news conference regarding the death is scheduled for 11 a.m. Wednesday.
