Grain train derails between Joffre and Alix

Canadian National Railway crews are on site handling grain cars that derailed around 5 a.m. this morning halfway between Joffre and Alix.

No one was injured and there were no dangerous goods on the train, stated a news release from Lacombe County.

It is believed that 16 grain cars derailed.

Township Road 39-0 was temporally closed at the intersections of Range Road 24-2 and Range Road 24-3. It reopened around 8 a.m. but cleanup continues, said Jim Feeny, CN public and government affairs director.

CN crews arrived at the scene around 9 a.m., he said.

The cause of the derailment is under investigation.
