Hearing into alleged escort scam planned
Evidence against a Red Deer woman accused in a string of break-ins, as well as an online escort scam, will be tested during a preliminary hearing to be set next month.
Lindsay Rae Mazzei, 30, was arrested with two men in Kamloops, B.C., following allegations of a Red Deer-based scam in which men were beaten and robbed after being lured by an online escort service.
She is also charged in connection with a series of break-ins at rural homes near Blackfalds earlier this year.
Mazzei pleaded not guilty in Red Deer provincial court on Wednesday to multiple counts of kidnapping, unlawful confinement, armed robbery, extortion with a firearm, uttering death threats, numerous weapons offences and multiple counts of possession of stolen property.
Represented by Red Deer lawyer Walter Kubanek, she has asked to be tried by judge and jury in the Court of Queen’s Bench.
A preliminary hearing is to be scheduled in Red Deer provincial court on Sept. 11.
Mazzei was released from custody on Aug. 14.
