Highway turned to skating rink
EDSON — RCMP are advising drivers not to travel on a stretch of the Yellowhead Highway in west-central Alberta because of extremely icy conditions.
Police say there have been several accidents or vehicles that have slid into the ditch on Highway 16 between Edson and Hinton, west of Edmonton.
There are no reports of any injuries.
School authorities have had to cancel bus service in a number of areas due to treacherous roads.
The region was hit by rain Sunday — precipitation that combined with more showers overnight to freeze and turn roads into skating rinks.
There are no reports of travel problems in and around Edmonton.
