Judge set to rule on fatal crash case
A judge will rule on Thursday in the case against a man accused of impaired driving in the fatal crash that killed his best friend.
Over the past two weeks, Red Deer Court of Queen’s Bench Justice Monica Bast has heard testimony relating to the death of Nathan Michael Medwid, 19.
Medwid was ejected from his vehicle after it left the road and rolled just before off Hwy 20 about five km north of Sylvan Lake just before 2 a.m. on Dec. 5, 2006.
His roommate and best friend, Preston Clifford Hanson, now 25, was arrested three years later and charged with impaired driving causing death.
Arguments in the trial have been focused on who was actually behind the wheel when Medwid’s car left the road.
Bast is to announce her verdict, with reasons, at 2:30 p.m. on Thursday.
