Mattress fire forces evacuation at Red Deer hospital
A mattress fire at Red Deer Regional Hospital Centre resulted in three units being evacuated on Wednesday morning.
Red Deer Emergency Services dispatch received a call at around 9:20 a.m. of a fire on Unit 36.
Sixteen fire-medics from three fire halls responded with various equipment, including two engines, a skylift, one ambulance and one command unit.
Crews discovered a smouldering mattress. The fire was out and confined to one room. The fire activated the sprinkler system and the fire alarm within the hospital.
Hospital staff evacuated Unit 36 and adjacent units due to smoke and gases from the fire prior to fire crews arriving.
Crews remained on scene to monitor air quality at the unit and other units within the hospital.
No injuries were reported. Emergency Services crews left the scene at 10:50 a.m.
Emergency Services prevention officers and RCMP are investigating.
