Pleas expected in kidnapping case
Pleas are to be entered in Edmonton on Friday for an Innisfail man accused of attacking and kidnapping a woman after their relationship broke off.
The 56-year-old man, whose name is withheld to protect the identity of his alleged victim, was arrested at the CrossIron Mills shopping centre near Balzac on March 28, 2012, by police investigating allegations that a woman had been kidnapped and assaulted.
The man has been held in custody since then on numerous charges laid in Airdrie and Vegreville, including housebreaking, aggravated assault, sexual assault, kidnapping, unlawful confinement and assaulting police.
He has asked for trial by judge and jury in the Court of Queen’s Bench, but has not yet entered pleas on the various charges before the court.
Details are to be sorted out during his arraignment in Edmonton on Friday.
