Police issue travel advisory for Hwy 2


Police are advising that travel is not recommended on Hwy 2 as of 8:30 a.m. Thursday from Red Deer to Didsbury due to blowing snow, reduced visibility and icy sections.

The Innisfail RCMP Integrated Traffic Unit is asking people to please avoid travelling in this area until conditions improve.

Also, on Wednesday evening, Hwy 2 in the Red Deer area, including north to Ponoka and south to Innisfail experiencing severe winter driving conditions, with poor visibility and icy roads. Over a dozen vehicles were reported in the ditch.

Strong winds and snow hit the region Wednesday evening.

A tow advisory was put in effect for Red Deer north to Ponoka on Wednesday evening and RCMP were advising advise extreme caution, as well as urging drivers to reduce their speed.

Environment Canada forecasts light snow ending Thursday afternoon then cloudy. Winds are north 20 km/h becoming light this morning. The temperature will falling to -14C this afternoon.
