Two face charges after pot bust

Two people will appear in Red Deer provincial court Thursday to face charges in relation to the seizure of 2.2 kg of marijuana and $127,190 in cash.

The nine-month investigation also led RCMP to seize bank accounts containing about $103,000.

Shane Clifford White, 29, and Alyssa Marilyn Landry, 23, both of Red Deer, were charged with drug and Criminal Code offences on Aug. 1.

The seizure of drugs and cash was made in June when investigators of the RCMP Federal Policing Serious and Organized Crime Team executed search warrants at a Red Deer residence. A total of 2.2 kg of marijuana and $127,190.00 cash was found and seized.

Police say further investigation has led to the restraint of bank accounts valued at approximately $103,000.

White has been charged with trafficking a controlled substance, possession of a controlled substance for the purpose of trafficking, laundering the proceeds of crime, and possession of the proceeds of crime.

Landry has been charged with possession of a controlled substance for the purpose of trafficking, and possession of the proceeds of crime.

RCMP organized crime team was assisted by investigators from the RCMP Red Deer detachment, and supported by intelligence provided by Financial Transactions Reports and Analysis Centre of Canada.

“The RCMP is committed to reducing harm and preventing crime in communities across Alberta. The success of this investigation is due to the hard work and determination of many RCMP officers working in a co-ordinated fashion over many months”, says Supt. Frank Smart, RCMP federal policing officer. “We have disrupted this drug trafficking operation by seizing their drugs and their money.”

Serious organized crime teams include RCMP officers who specialize in conducting complex organized crime investigations. Investigators on these teams have expertise in drug trafficking, money laundering and financial investigations at the local, national and international level.
