RCMP hunting child luring suspect

A teen girl was followed by a gold-toothed man onto a city bus, and then followed her when she got off too.

Red Deer RCMP are looking for a suspect in the scary incident, saying that the man offered the girl a ride home after getting off the bus.

According to police, the 13-year-old girl got on her bus at the Sorensen Station transit terminal at about 3:15 p.m. on Monday. The man did not approach her at the terminal, but did get on the same bus as her.

When the girl got off the bus in the area of Viscount Drive and 22nd Street in the Vanier Woods area, the man also exited the bus.

Police said the man offered her a ride home, saying his vehicle was parked nearby.

The girl refused and made her way home safely, the man did not follow her at that point.

Police describe the suspect as a Caucasian male about 50 years old. He is about 1.72 metres (five-foot-eight) tall and has a stocky build. He is bald and has brown eyes. He is missing a front tooth and has a gold tooth. He spoke in a deep and raspy voice. He wore a puffy black jacket with a hood, baggy dirty jeans and work boots.

Police would like to remind people to call 911 immediately in situations similar to this as immediate reporting creates better opportunities for officers to locate suspects.

Anyone with information about this incident is asked to contact the Red Deer RCMP at 403-343-5575 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477, or online at www.tipsubmit.com.
