RDC video game, film camps ready to get started

Summer camp and video games don’t seem like a good combination, but at Red Deer College this summer it is one popular way teens learn all about a favourite past time.

The Video Game Design workshop allows teens to create and design their own video game in a week’s time. They work with a team of programmers and artists to develop the game and learn the ins and outs of writing and designing games.

Included in the workshop is story and character development, production, strategy, level designs, scripting, animation, interfaces and mobile gaming.

The game design workshop runs from July 6 to 12.

As well, the teen film camp immerses students in an intensive hands-on approach to exploring film and video. Students will learn how to produce, direct, shoot, write, act and edit their own short movies during the first week. Then, during the second week, students will collaborate on a film where the set is pre-constructed and ready for action. The film camp runs from July 6 to 19.

Registration for the film camps is still open. The deadline to apply for week one is July 4 and for week two is July 11. To register online, visit www.rdc.ab.ca/summercamps.
