Cars, trucks theft suspect wants to deal quickly with long string of charges

A man facing 17 charges, including nine possession of stolen property — mostly cars and trucks — wants to deal with these charges as quickly as possible.

Jesse Bissonnette, 29, of Blackfalds listened closely from the Red Deer Remand Centre via closed-circuit television as his charges were read to him on Friday in Red Deer provincial court.

Bissonnette’s defence counsel, Patty McNaughton, said her client wanted to resolve these matters expeditiously and asked that all the charges he faces, which stem from two incidents, go to Tuesday in Red Deer provincial court for resolution.

Bissonnette pleaded guilty to possession and trafficking of drugs charges on March 24, with sentencing scheduled for Aug. 19. The following day, he was arrested in connection to a rash of vehicle and property thefts from the Blackfalds and the rural Lacombe area.

On March 28, he was released from custody on bail.

Then on March 31, he was arrested again and charged with vehicle theft, three counts of failing to comply with a recognizance, possession of a controlled substance, possession of property obtained by crime and dangerous operation of a motor vehicle.

He remains in custody at the Red Deer Remand Centre.
