Tenant assaulted after catching thief in laundry room

An apartment tenant was assaulted after catching a laundry room coin thief in the act on Saturday in Red Deer.

Red Deer City RCMP said that at about 9 a.m., a male was observed stealing the coins from the laundry room at Waskasoo Manor, on 37th Street and 52nd Avenue.

The tenant attempted to stop the suspect but was struck in the head with a metal tool that the suspect had. The tenant suffered minor injuries and the suspect fled.

The suspect is described as Caucasian, wearing a black leather jacket, hat, black and grey high-top shoes, jeans with holes, dark brown to black hair, and facial hair.

Anyone with information that will assist the RCMP in identifying the suspect is asked to call RCMP at 403-343-5575, or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477.
