Three fined after being hooked in fish trafficking sting
Three Rimbey-area men pleaded guilty last week to unlawfully buying fish from a fish-trafficking ring operating at Pigeon Lake and the surrounding region.
On Jan. 4, George Hofer, 58, pleaded guilty in Rimbey provincial court to two counts of unlawfully purchasing fish, contrary to the Alberta Fisheries Act, and was fined a total of $8,050. One count was withdrawn.
Elias Hofer, 64, pleaded guilty to two counts of unlawfully purchasing fish and fined $8,050.
Frank Elias Hofer, 38, pleaded guilty to one count of unlawfully purchasing fish and was fined $2,300.
They were among a group of 27 people facing a total of 72 charges laid after a four-year investigation. Charges were laid last spring.
Other suspects were being managed in separate court jurisdiction, including Wetaskiwin, Edmonton, Camrose and Breton.
