Hwy 2 reopened

Hwy 2 has reopened between Hwy 42 and McKenzie Road, after being closed earlier on Friday evening due to downed power lines on the roadway.

According to an RCMP release from the Innisfail Intergrated Traffic Unit, a semi tractor trailer came into contact with overhead power lines Friday afternoon, while dumping asphalt as part of the paving project at Hwy 42. The power lines were pulled down across both north and southbound lanes of Hwy 2 and subsequently, traffic in both directions was stopped.

Six vehicles in the Northbound lanes were damaged in the incident after coming in contact with the downed power line. There were no injuries in the incident and the highway was completely reopened about 90 minutes later.

Fortis Alberta attended to the power lines and removed them from the roadway.

Fortis Alberta plans on returning Friday night around 11:30 p.m. to complete repairs on the damaged power poles. During this time, Hwy 2 will be closed in both directions for about a half hour.
