Woman dies of injuries in workplace incident

A 52-year-old woman died in an onsite work incident on Monday just south of Rocky Mountain House.

The woman, an employee of Newcart Contracting, was working at a jobsite on Township Road 382, just off of Range Road 73.

According to Brookes Merritt, a public affairs officer for Alberta Occupational Health and Safety, the incident took place around 10:30 a.m.

The woman was standing near a Bobcat loader, a S250 skid-steer machine, that was being used to move two compressed air tanks.

The tanks weighed 45 kg (100 pounds) each, Merritt said.

“The operator of the Bobcat started to reverse the machine and he struck the female worker and drove over her and she sustained fatal head injuries.”

She was pronounced dead on scene. Her name is not being released.

OHS issued a stop-work order on the Bobcat while the fatality is investigated.

As of Thursday afternoon, OHS was continuing with their investigation.
