The Alberta Sports Hall of Fame and Museum is showing guests what life looks like when sports stop.
As recognition of the COVID-19 pandemic and the landscape-altering impact it has had, a new exhibit at the museum opened Friday.
It examines the effects of global events on the sports world, such as the Spanish flu, world wars and most recently, COVID-19.

“I was just about to return to work from my maternity leave when COVID struck and sports stopped. It made me stop and think about what other global events have caused sports to stop?
“If I was asking these questions, then so were many other people,” said collections and exhibit co-ordinator Breanna Suk.
“I came back to work in May with this exhibit already forming in my mind. It got pushed back as we had bigger priorities when I first returned, so seeing it all come together seven months later, is a great feeling.”
In March, Utah Jazz centre Rudy Gobert tested positive for COVID-19, and from there, the sports world came to a screeching halt. Most leagues have intermittently returned to play since.
The NHL, NBA and MLB have all still handed out championship trophies, despite a pause in their seasons due to the pandemic. The CFL did not play a season in 2020.
