Two men tried unsuccessfully to drive a truck through the door of a Red Deer convenience store and steal an ATM at about 8 a.m. on Wednesday morning.

Police are now seeking public assistance to identify and locate the suspects who abandoned the stolen truck they were driving and fled on foot.

Red Deer RCMP said they responded a report after the men attempted to use the blue truck they were in and smash through the door of the convenience store on Golden West Avenue. After their efforts failed, the suspects abandoned the truck and fled on foot.

Citizens will have seen a heavy police presence in the Kentwood neighbourhood and into Normandeau as Red Deer RCMP contained the area and conducted a search for the suspects with assistance from Police Dog Services.

The driver is described as having dark brown hair, wearing a grey jacket with white lettering on the back, ball cap and blue jeans.

The passenger had a fully masked face, and was wearing blue jeans, black shoes, white lettering on the back pocket of his jeans, and a black jacket over a grey hoodie
