Red Deer RCMP are looking for public assistance to identify a man who assaulted a staff member with bear spray when robbing a liquor store on Monday.

Police responded to the robbery at 1 p.m. after two men attempted to steal liquor from Bower Liquor at 2325 50 Ave. When the staff member attempted to stop them, he was sprayed with bear spray. The two suspects stole two bottles of alcohol and fled in a red SUV, which was reported stolen.

The suspect vehicle has been identified as a red 2014 Hyundai Santa Fe, Alberta license plate ERU 157. The driver’s side door may have sustained damage during the robbery.

The victim has recovered from the debilitating and highly unpleasant effects of the bear spray.
