Central Aberta home sales continue to improve over last year.

There were 188 homes sold in January, up 11.9 per cent from the same month last year, according to statistics from the Central Alberta Realtors Association.

Sales activity also improved province-wide, with sales up 17.7 per cent compared with the same month last year.

The average sale price — which is prone to fluctuations depending on the value of individual homes sold — was $312,688. That is up nine per cent from the same month last year.

There were 637 new residential listings, up 4.2 per cent from a year ago, was added to the Multiple Listing Service.

Last year was a tough one for house sales, although activity levels began to improve over the last few months of the year.

Sales in December were up 15.4 per cent, an unexpectedly strong but selcome showing.
