Ice jam, localized flooding force closures of some Red Deer trails

A few parts of Red Deer’s vast trail system are closed due to some isolated flooding.

A few parts of Red Deer’s vast trail system are closed due to some isolated flooding.

A Saturday release from the City, said due to ice build-up and flooding four stretches of trail are closed.

They include Kiwanis Picnic Park to the Heritage Ranch pedestrian bridge; 67th Street to Three Mile Bend; McKenzie Trail’s north loop, boat launch and picnic area and Waskasoo Crescent’s staircase and boat launch.

These trail sections are barricaded and residents are asked to avoid the areas.

The spring run-off and a large ice jam at Three Mile Bend are the source of the localized flooding. However, the city said water levels are still well below flood levels this year.
