Seasonal patios will be permitted in downtown Red Deer, making it easier for businesses to reopen while adhering to provincial public health orders amid COVID-19.

The program runs each year with downtown food and entertainment businesses encouraged to apply for a patio, which extends out from the front of their business.

“This year is different, but the patio program will continue to run, enabling downtown businesses to increase their operating capacity at a time when doing business is more challenging than ever before,” said Karen Mann, the city’s emergency operations centre director.

The city will also be opening the downtown Ross Street Patio with modified amenities, including fewer picnic tables. At this time, no programming is scheduled for the Ross Street Patio, which is expected to open by June 15.

For more information about the Ross Street Patio, or to download an application for the city’s seasonal patio program, visit https://www.reddeer.ca/business/operating-a- business/downtown-red-deer/patio/.

The deadline for applications is June 15.
