City of Lacombe is warning residents about a company selling water treatment equipment.

A number of residents have phoned the city to say they had been approached by a company, Eco Global, and told if they buy treatment equipment they could get a $500 rebate.

Eco Global representatives have phoned residences, set up appointments to test water and even collected void cheques as part of their aggressive sales pitches.

Lacombe has no connection to Eco Global and does not condone its activities, says the city in a Tuesday news release. The company does not hold a business licence to sell door to door in the city.

Eco Global was also active in Red Deer last month, drawing resident complaints about high-pressure sales tactics, including efforts by company representatives to photograph tax and utility bills.

Lacombe reminds residents are not required to provide water samples to any private individuals or obligated to allow them into their homes.

City employees will soon be going out to replace water meters and the municipality does not want any confusion with their work.

Anyone with concerns can call Service Alberta’s consumer protection line at 1-877-427-4088 or the City of Lacombe’s Enforcement Services Department at 403-782-1269, ext. 3.
