Man arrested on warrants for Red Deer taxi robbery, crimes throughout Central Alberta

Blackfalds RCMP arrested a man wanted throughout Central Alberta, and was linked to a February knifepoint robbery of a Red Deer taxi driver.

The 31-year-old was arrested on May 16 in an incident unrelated to the Feb. 2 robbery. Blackfalds members notified Red Deer RCMP about the arrest.

A warrant was issued out of Red Deer on Feb. 2 after police identified him shortly after the robbery. Police said the taxi driver picked up two men at a Riverside Meadows gas station and drove them to several destinations before one man departed the taxi.

The taxi drove south on Gaetz Avenue between 52nd and 53rd Streets and the remaining suspect produced a knife and demanded cash from the driver. He exited the taxi and fled on foot.

Police said the man was wanted on numerous outstanding warrants from Caroline, Rocky Mountain House, Blackfalds and Red Deer.

He is charged with robbery with a weapon, possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose and failing to comply with conditions. He will next appear in Red Deer provincial court on June 1.
