Maskwacis misses final Kraft Hockeyville cut

Enthusiasm ran high in Maskwacis after arena project made final 10 for Kraft Hockeyville.

Ituna, Sask. will represent the West and O’Leary, PEI the East in the final showdown and the chance to host an NHL pre-season game.

Maskwacis residents were buzzing with excitement when they made the final 10, which came with a $25,000 prize.

Ermineskin Cree Nation plans to put the money towards improvements to the Neyaskweyahk Arena.

Former St. Louis Blues prospect Stephen Wagner, who was raised in Maskwacis, came out to help drum up support for his hometown in a kickoff event on March 10. Residents came together for a voting party at the local high school and computers were freed up at the local employment centre so residents could get their online votes in.

Ituna says in their application they plan to put the money towards a much-needed new rink in the town of about 600 165 km north of Regina.
